ABC News producer, Asa Eslocker, was arrested for taking photographs of Democratic Senators fat cat donors leaving the Brown Palace Hotel in Denver after a private meeting Eslocker is being charged with trespass, interference and failure to follow a lawful order

The police also claim that the arrest follows a complaint filed by the Brown Palace Hotel A security guard is seen on the video shoving Asa Eslocker off the sidewalk in front of the hotel and across the street Later a police officer put his hands on Asa Eslocker’s neck, yanked his hands behind his back, handcuffed him, then hustled him away to a nearby police station in a van Asa Eslocker was later freed after posting a $500 bond

Asa Eslocker is performing an investigation on the relationship between high powered lobbyists and politicians for ABC World News ABC will be performing the exact same investigation at the Republican National Convention in Minneapolis-St Paul next week

There appears to be a dispute between ABC News and the police regardless of whether the sidewalk he and his camera crew had been standing on was public or a private sidewalk owned by the hotel It is also not clear, viewing the video, if Asa Eslocker and his camera crew had been truly blocking the street.

There is no evidence at this time that Asa Eslocker was arrested and hustled off to jail on behalf of the politicians and lobbyists who had been meeting at the Brown Palace Hotel But it is particular that the spectacle of such a meeting taking place throughout a political convention led by a Presidential nominee, Barack Obama, who claims to have eschewed relationships between politicians and fat cat lobbyists, was an embarrassment to say the least.

Regrettably the spectacle of a member of the media being roughed up and hauled off by the police although attempting to do his job of reporting the news is proving to be a bigger embarrassment It doesn’t take 1 to be too paranoid to wonder regardless of whether the matter was not blocking visitors or trespass but rather an attempt to suppress a totally free press

That’s the sort of thing that occurs in Russia or Communist China It really should not take place in the United States.

I use to be a large History Channel fan It would literally maintain me up late some nights just to see a show on ancient Rome or Medieval England The past year or two, some thing has gone awry at the History Channel The channel appears to have lost its focus on actual history.

1 well-known show that’s on a lot is Modern Marvels Now granted it is somewhat fascinating the very first time or two you see how toilet paper came to be But when it leads to a sequel, Bathroom Tech II, I believe the channel is losing the historical vision that gave it such a substantial fan base

Why Ice Road Truckers is on the History Channel, I have no notion At least with shows like Modern Marvels or Gangland, they can show a history behind the making of some thing or how gangs came to be But this is essentially like reality TV for truckers driving on ice I don’t have a dilemma at all with the show I just fail to understand why it’s on a channel supposedly devoted to history.

The History channel is also heavily into modern events you can uncover and read in present newspapers The war in Iraq is 1 such topic I watch the news and read the papers The History Channel use to be an entertaining and enlightening escape from present events They nearly never devote airtime to the other wars as they use to For example, the Civil War, WWII, and ancient wars use to be a mainstay of the channel.

As I said I do not have a dilemma with any of these shows, they aren’t poor shows But the History Channel’s present lineup is practically exclusively devoted to them It’s as if the history component is an afterthought I’ll maintain going back to check from time to time to see if any history pops up, but for now the History Channel isn’t on my need to-see list.

And don’t get me started on the National Geographic Channel I now call it the dog show channel The Dog Whisperer, Dogs with Jobs…The list goes on .
